Press Release: Restless taxpayers can take advantage of extended hours, have their taxes prepared overnights, and even wear their pajamas into Liberty Tax Service in the wee hours before the April 15th tax filing deadline.  Over 800 Liberty Tax Service offices are participating in “The Up All Night Liberty Tax Slumber Party” from 7 a.m. Monday, April 13th through midnight on April 15th.

“If you wait until the last minute to get to the post office to mail your return, you may find that’s not an option this year.  Due to some federal budget cuts, fewer post offices will be open for retail service until midnight this year.  Procrastinators can always choose to e-file their tax information, an extension request, and even a request to pay in installments,” said John Hewitt, CEO of Liberty Tax Service.  “Liberty Tax can help.  We’ll provide refreshments and make the last minute frenzy as hassle free as possible.”

Taxpayers who don’t file a tax return by April 15th face the additional tax liability of a failure-to-file penalty of 5% of the unpaid taxes for each month, or part of a month that a return is late up to five months (25%).  If your return is over 60 days late, the minimum penalty for late filing is the smaller of $135 for returns required to be filed after December 31, 2008 or 100 percent of the tax owed.
