The Cherokee County Council voted Monday night to close its accounts with Bank Of America.

According to our coverage partners at the Spartanburg Herald Journal, the move comes nearly a week after the bank said a miscommunication in corporate police led a local branch worker to remove American flags that were placed on the bank’s property lining the road to honor the death of fallen Marine Lance Corporal Christopher Fowlkes.

The flags were down for a short period of time and the placed back up in time for the arrival of Fowlkes’ body.

Bank Of America says a miscommunication in corporate policy led a local branch worker to remove American flags that were placed on the Bank’s property lining the road Wednesday to honor Lance Corporal Christopher Fowlkes. The flags were down for a short period of time.

Bank of America released this statement: “We want to ensure the community knows how deeply proud we are of the men and women who have sacrificed so much in service to our country.  The bank does fly the American Flag at our locations throughout the country and flags were displayed in front of our banking center in Gaffney the evening prior to our dedicated Marine returning home. We deeply apologize for any misunderstandings. “

Flags have been up since Tuesday and will stay up through the memorial Friday.

Let the libs chew on this. Just because it has America in the name doesn't mean they shouldn't be held up to scrutiny. http://www.businessinsider.com/john-carney-bank-of-america-screwed-taxpayers-out-of-billions-2009-9

When any procession of vehicles, carrying the family and the remains of a U.S. veteran or fallen service member is scheduled to pass before you or your business, EVERY AMERICAN should be thinking only ONE thing - where might I best stand, so I can honor and give thanks for the life of this UNITED STATES soldier or Marine? I'm all for freedom, liberty, property rights of *citizens*, etc., however, none of those would be possible were it not for the bravery and selflessness of every person in our armed forces. Why can't you liberals GET that? In other words, put down your iced mochas, get your *bleep*s into your little "Smart" carts, and putt-putt on over to your local hardware store and buy $20 worth of flags to add to the procession. Stop being such selfish little blanks.

Ironic name "Bank of America" -- a few years ago, BofA closed their information technology shop in Charlotte to move it to India too. What's next?

again to constitution... its clear to me and all that have stood up and that fought for this great nation of ours that this lady was not putting a swastika or the Iraq flag but the AMERICAN FLAG.I do believe that"s where the common sense you talked about comes in.The manager only need open her eyes an wake up,and I beg to defer but it was the issue of honoring this soldier for his last parade down the street of his home town and honoring his family and supporting them in their grief .Maybe you should put yourself in their shoes or try and peddle your liberal garbage to them.JIM56NAM?USMC

USMCwife, you have issues if you honestly think I care what your opinions of me are. First off, I never once said I was not thankful to this young Lance Corporal for his sacrifice. I respect what this lady was trying to do, but yes I do believe she should have checked with management first. I would hate to see the day when you do not have control over your private property. This is what you are battling. It makes no sense for you to argue that he died to keep America free when you are trying to force your diluted, uninspired ideas to someone with a different point of view. You are what makes this country such a disgrace at times. I see your handle as USMCwife and I feel bad that your significant other fought or is fighting only to have a wife who does not follow the principles this country was based on. I've had my fill of your garbage and ugly glimpse into your mind. Please don't respond to me with a sob story about your life, why this is so important to you, or why your family fights for this great nation- I don't care- it would only make your argument comical to me. God Bless America and Lance Corporal Christopher Fowlkes- may he rest in peace.

Abfabn23, you are a useless piece of flesh. This young Lance Corporal lost his life trying to stop the proliferation of terrorist activities, and you indignantly believe permission should have been asked of *anyone* along the route of procession? Grow up and show this Marine and his family some thankfulness and honor. It's people like you, having perceptions of being on the receiving end of everything in life, who are destroying this country. Lance Corporal Christopher Fowlkes put aside his comforts in order to be keep America free. Do you have ANY idea what gift he gave you???

My God! Doesn't anybody understand the free enterprise system? Oh forgive them because we need the services they provide. If they act like butt-heads, let them fail. Hasn't anyone taken economics by a professor who doesn't pass on a socialistic bias? I can't believe the twisted panty comments posted here. I saw the picture. The flags were way out by the street. If some weenie pulled my flag down under those circumstances, They would learn not to piss off a retired Marine. The collective sheep who worry about being politically correct and never offending anybody are a sign of the rot which produced BUSH AND ESPECIALLY OBAMA. YOU JERKS ARE LOSING YOUR COUNTRY WHILE TRYING TO BE NICE AND UNDERSTANDING!!!

I am happy to see posts from someone who truly understands what our founding fathers were trying to accomplish for us and why our soldiers are fighting for this country. Thank you Constitution for your posts. As for jim56nam: It’s a common bond, the necessity of the bank and the services it provides. Without the bank lending money to people to buy their homes, cars, pay for weddings, and for opening small business, this country would not function. Yes it is true that the bank needs us, but let me ask you a question… do you have the means to support the development of new communities? Can you supply work to thousands of individuals in search of employment? Can you help develop opportunities for growth and stabilize an already crumbling economy? Yes the bank needs our help to stay afloat, but it is us that need the bank to live out our potential. It is us that need to humble ourselves and be understanding. Not everyone is our enemy. Thinking that is what has us in such turmoil.

I think if the American flag offends any body they don't belong here. I won't be dealing with that bank any more. army vetern. 1965 to 1968
