Two months into the new school year and already big changes at one Dorchester District 2 school. All three top administrators at Knightsville Elementary have been reassigned to other positions in the school district.
School district officials say a teacher assistant allegedly touched a student inappropriately, and the principals failed to follow procedure in reporting the incident.
Pat Raynor, public information officer for Dorchester District 2 says as of Friday, the administrative team at Knightsville Elementary School has been reassigned to other positions in the district because of “procedural issues involving mandated reporting.“
Principal, Anita Ruff Putillion has been at Knightsville a couple of years. Les Kephart and Mary Rita Watson were the school’s assistant principals.
An assistant principal from Beech Hill Elementary, Walley Baird has been assigned to Knightsville as principal.
Raynor says a letter was sent home to all parents Monday, informing them of the administrative change. A meet and greet with new principal will be held at the school Tuesday at 6:30pm.
Parent Jennifer Kuhns has three children at Knightsville. She says she is concerned about changing the entire administrative team, and wants to know what’s going on. She plans to attend tonight’s meeting. Kuhns says, “My main concern is with consistency. I want to know what’s going on with the school, and I also want to know what could be so bad that the principals have done, that would cause them to lose their positions at school, and how does that affect my child? What would cause them to make an administrative change mid year like they’ve done?“
