Post office may be closing

More than 70 people showed up Tuesday night at a meeting held by the City of North Charleston to discuss the possible closing of the Pinehaven Post Office on McMillan Ave.
The U.S. Postal Service is on track to lose $7 Billion dollars this year. They plan to close about 700 facilities as part of a plan to lose less money in the future.
The McMillan Ave. branch is one of the facilities being looked at by the Postal Service.
Residents in the community say many of the folks who live near that post office can’t drive to a post office, so the 5 miles they would need to travel to the Rivers Ave. post office will not work.
Some people asked why aren’t other smaller post offices like the Isle of Palms or Sullivans Island post offices being considered for closure?
City Councilmen in attendance said they plan to fight the closure every way they know how.
