Charleston Southern University has released a number of things the school is doing to try and increase security.  There have been 2 lockdowns on campus in the last month due to security issues.  Below is a list of things they tell us they are implimenting;

* Armed security officers will be added to the campus security force.
* Campus Police vehicles will be added to enhance our security presence.
* Checkpoints for entrance to the campus will be implemented during nighttime hours.
* Evening security patrols campus wide will be increased.
* Outside Emergency Telephone stations are located throughout the campus. We will continue to make students aware of these locations and encourage their use to report any suspicious behavior.
* We continue to work with the North Charleston Police Department, Charleston County Sheriff’s
* Office, and the South Carolina Highway Patrol in crisis preparedness and emergency procedures.
* Charleston Southern has a zero tolerance policy for illegal drugs. Students who violate this policy will face immediate suspension.  We will continue our practice of using drug K-9 search teams to assist with the enforcement of campus drug policies.
* We have added counselors and established a Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT). This team of faculty and staff provides a comprehensive assessment of student behavioral issues for early intervention initiatives.
* We will continue to add surveillance cameras across campus.
