New North Charleston project could mean more than 6,000 new jobs

Officials and developers say the new Ingleside Plantation will become a place where Lowcountry residents can live, work and play. But, what does that really mean to you?

One developer, Richard Weiser, says the new project will create no fewer than 6,000 jobs in a two decade period. Weiser also says the 20 to 25 years needed for completion will include construction work for locals.

Many citizens are concerned with increased traffic going into the already congested Highway 78 corridor. Mayor Keith Summey, of North Charleston, says the Ingleside project will actually force more traffic studies that could help solve traffic problems in the long term.

Officials also remind that the commercial development will bring in a large amount of tax dollars. They say the money goes to projects like better roads and schools and trickles down to police and fire departments.
