Museum wants Dillon girl’s dress

The lavender dress a South Carolina teen wore to Washington as she helped President Obama bring national attention to the plight of the state’s rundown rural schools is heading to the State Museum.
Dillon student Ty’Sheoma Bethea sat beside first lady Michelle Obama as the president’s guest during his first address to Congress. She received hugs from the first lady as Obama recounted the letter the eighth grader sent Congress asking for help replacing J.V. Martin Junior High.
The State Museum asked for the dress she wore.
Museum spokesman Tut Underwood said the museum will receive it on Thursday. He said it’s historically significant because Bethea helped underscore Obama’s call for education funding.
