CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A man is now behind bars for the beating death of his roommate.

Officers charged 41-year-old Gregory Anthony Keitt in the beating death of a retired South Carolina teacher who had taken him into his home.

Police say the attack happened April 10th at the mens’ shared apartment in West Ashley on Carriage Lane.

According to a police report, Keitt got into an argument with his 66-year-old roommate Wilton McFaddin Jr.  Police say the men were arguing over laundry money.

Officers say Keitt hit McFaddin several times in the face, knocking him unconscious.

McFaddin died three days later at MUSC from injuries in the attack.

Keitt was being held in the Charleston County jail. It was unclear if he had an attorney.

McFaddin had worked as a teacher and speech therapist in Charleston before he retired. His sister says he had befriended Keitt while working on his speech therapy degree at South Carolina State University.
