A man in his mid 30’s was bitten by a Copperhead snake at the Goose Creek Wal-Mart in their Lawn and Garden Center.

Authorities killed the snake at the store, and placed it in an ambulance with the man for species identification.

The Goose Creek Fire Department tell us that only one of the snake’s fangs entered the man.

He was expected to be released from the hospital Monday night.

The identity of the man and his condition are not being made public at this time.

Wal-Mart released a statement to News 2 Tuesday afternoon. Spokeswoman Ashley Hardie said, “At Walmart, the safety of our customers and associates is always our priority. We are continuing to check on the customer and wish him a quick recovery. Our store is taking precautions to prevent this from happening again. Animal control conducted a thorough search of the area to ensure it remains a safe and pleasant shopping and working environment.”

The Copperhead snake is a venomous snake.

It’s most commonly found in the Eastern part of the United States, especially here in the Carolinas.

It can be recognized by the tan color and dark bands on their bodies along with the copper color of their head.

While there are a lot of cases of venomous Copperhead snake bites, luckily their bite is the least dangerous and is rarely fatal.

I do not know how the snake got there, but I can tell you this it is mans fault the snake was there. If what to know why it is mans fault think about it we are destroying their natural habitat with all the development of the wood, all in the name of progress. Has long has this continues we will so more of this happening. I do not think people need to be concerned about this happening again, the snake most like came in with one over their deliveries from a nursery so please do not think this would happen again it is very unlikely. On more thing, I live in a trail park of Dorchester and just they other day I seen a family of possums running around my trailer. My first thought was to call the owner a let he know but then I thought what’s the harm the are only here because they is a food supply and when and if the food supply becomes depleted they will move on. I also do not want to see them destroyed so I am not going to call anyone I will just have to learn to live with them. Please do not think I am one those animal nut that think we should not destroy wild life for any reason for some times we will need to. I do go hunting and fish to but food on the table, but I am tired of see so much destruction of air woodlands all in the name of progress.

Correction: Authorities did NOT kill the snake at the store. The man stomped it to death after he was bitten. I work there and saw the snake dead before the ambulance was notified to come for the man that was bitten.
