Charleston City council members voted Tuesday night to give a private college a $700,000 loan. The American College of the Building Arts says the money will help them receive accreditation.

But one preservation group, the Friends of the Mcleod Plantation, isn’t in favor of the idea… The college says it’s all about receiving support from the city, the Mayor’s office says the same… helping to support a college that teaches a trade to preserve historic buildings in our city.

The measure was passed in a final reading 8-to-3, and the college wil* repay the city… with interest.
