UPDATE: Layoffs, furloughs announced at Patriots Point

The Patriots Point Naval Museum announced job cuts and furloughs Thursday due to the bad economy.

Spokesman Charlie Hall told News 2 that 11 full-time employees are being laid off.

He was unsure of how many part-time workers will lose their jobs.

Hall said the decline in visitation and gift shop sales with mounting pressure from unbudgeted expenses to temporarily stabilize the USS Laffey resulted in cuts in full-time personnel and reductions in part-time staffing.

The remaining full-time staff at Patriots Point will be required to take a 4-day furlough no later than June 30.
