Home values in Charleston area rise

The value of homes in South Carolina actually rose in the third quarter of 2008 compared with the same time last year as national home values dropped.
The latest numbers from the U.S. Federal Housing Agency showed home values in the Palmetto State rose 2.4 percent. The increase ranked sixth among the rate of appreciation for single-family homes over the past year.
The numbers were not as encouraging nationwide.
The national housing slump continued to take its toll on homeowner as values dropped four percent.
The Charleston area saw a 1.37 percent increase over the last year.
