UPDATE: TIME CHANGE OF CONFERENCE - CHANGED TO 2:30PM DUE TO A LOT OF MEDIA IN ATTENDANCE.

Governor Sanford will be speaking to the media Wednesday at approx. 2:30 pm (EST) in his office. CountOn2.com will cover the event live [WATCH VIDEO PLAYER BELOW AT 2:30PM].

Governor Sanford’s representative, Joel Sawyer, tells News 2 that the governor will hold a press conference and meet with reporters to answer questions at 2:30PM (EST) this afternoon.

The State newspaper in Columbia is reporting that Governor Mark Sanford was actually in Buenos Aires and not hiking on the Appalachian trail as his office told the press and state officials earlier this week.

A reporter met with the Governor in an Atlanta airport when he arrived back in the United States.

According to the Associated Press, Sanford said he was alone on the trip. He declined to give any additional details about what he did other than to say he drove along the coastline.

When The State reporter asked Sanford at the airport why his staff said he was on the Appalachian Trail, Sanford replied, “I don’t know.“

“I was lied to by his staff,“ says Bauer, “and I want to know why.“

Bauer calls Sanford’s trip to South America irresponsible.

“What if there had been some major emergency, like the wildfires we had in North Myrtle Beach a few weeks ago?“ says Bauer. “ When that happened, (state officials) were able to track him down and he made key decisions to spare people from major damage. If something like that had happened during this trip of his, who would have been in charge?“

South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler released the following statement today in response to recent developments in Governor Mark Sanford’s disappearance.

“It is the height of irresponsibility for the Governor to walk out on his solemn duty to the people of South Carolina, and to be completely out of touch without making arrangements for those responsibilities to be handled in his absence. When it comes to the real needs and concerns of South Carolinians, Mark Sanford has been pretty much missing in action for the last 6 and a half years. But it is not acceptable for him to be actually missing. However, as disturbing as it is to walk out on your responsibilities without telling anyone, what’s more troubling is that the Governor and his staff have been less than truthful about his whereabouts.“ said Fowler.

I am so sick and tired of all this crap I've been hearing from all these bleeding hearts that we should forgive Sanford's irresponsible and despicable agenda of late and let him finish his term in office. That's the biggest bunch of BS I've ever heard in my life! Sanford knew what he was getting into, let him face the consequences. To do otherwise would be like a slap on the wrist and say, "Well Mark, Slick Willie (Bill Clinton) did it too while he was President and got by with it, so it's ok if you do too." The difference is of course that Clinton didn't sneak out of the US to rendezvous with Monica in some erotic(exotic) country, leaving a tremendous void in the Executive branch of government. Can you imagine what could have happened if the President of the United States decided to go awol for a few days of r&r&s(sex). I'm pretty sure it must have been wonderful, but as the old saying goes, "If you want to dance(?) you got to pay the fiddler!" There is no such thing as a free lunch, so I think it's time our Governor, and I use the term loosely, because he lost my respect a long time ago. I have also learned when possible Impeachment hearings were going on against Slick Willie in the US House of Representatives, Mark Sanford was one of the leaders of the GOP pushing for impeachment as hard as they could. It did pass in the House, but failed in the US Senate. Perhaps Sanford should go back and read some of his actual comments about what a disgrace the whole Clinton affair was. But obviously he is expecting a double standard, even though impeachment hearings were started agaist former President Clinton. Sanford, by all accounts, internds to remain in office and proceed with business as usual! Wake up fellow South Carolinians! What Sanford did is inexcusable! What was he thinking? Was he so caught up in the throes of passion that he didn't see the forest for the trees? I submit to you that Sanford knew exactly what he was doing and was fully aware of the risks he was taking! Why else would this clandestine scheme be planned out in such great detail. The answer is quite simple-to escape the obvious! And if the reporter from The State hadn't spotted Sanford at the Atlanta airport, how long would this charade(at taxpayers' expense I might add) have gone on? But the real bottom line is that he willfully and knowingly misled the people of this state, people who had entrusted him with the well-being and security and safety of SC. His staff also followed his lead, knowingly or unknowingly. Even the First Lady, Jenny Sanford (May GOD bless you and keep you in this most difficult time in the live of your family) had known of the affair for months, and although estranged at the time, may have known his whereabouts. However, I'm getting a little off track here. The SC House of Representatives should immediately start Impeachment proceedings, and if they deccide not to, they are doing the people of SC a great disservice like this state has never seen. Sanford is guilty morally, personally, and legally for his actions. Even at best, during his second term, he has proven to be a lame duck Governor. Now he probably will be referred to as "THE DEAD DUCK GOVERNOR"! I think it is safe to say that what little effectiveness and control he had has gone south. So I would urge those in power to do what's best for SC for a change-IMPEACH SANFORD NOW! He does not deserve another day in the highest office in the state.
