Good “trashy” problem in Goose Creek

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

Residents in Goose Creek are bringing so much trash to be recycled to the recycling dumpster that it is overflowing with trash.  Some residents say it’s time for something to be done to fix the problem.

A viewer called News2 about this problem.  He said trash has been piling up next to the recycling dumpsters in Goose Creek at the Public Service Complex.  We went to the complex and met 2 other residents who say the trash has been a problem for years.  The spokesperson for the city of Goose Creek told us the county handles recycling, so we drove to the Berkeley Water & Sanitation to find out more about the problem.  Kimberly Timmons handles recycling for Berkeley County.  She tells me that additional bins to hold recyclables are in the new budget proposal, but that is not finalized yet.  It SHOULD be finalized by sometime this summer.  We should be able to know whether the problem will be corrected at that time.  In the meantime, the county sends workers out to the site to clean up the mess every Monday.

Take a look at Berkeley County’s recycling website for recycling locations near you!
