The Hunley Waters Community, along Noisette Creek, in North Charleston has taken the site of an abandoned trailer park and turned it into a one of a kind green community.
Hunley Waters is South Carolina’s first Gold Certified EarthCraft Community.
These homes range from 1,700 to 2,000 square feet and are equipped with energy efficient HVAC systems, windows, appliances and contain numerous recycled products throughout the homes.
Builder Lee Moulton with Old Man Construction estimates that energy savings in an average 1,700 square foot home can range from $50 to $60 dollars a month.
“We see this as a real good opportunity for the buyer to put this money, the money that they save from their energy bill, back into their house. If you’re saving an extra 50 dollars a month on your energy bill, which is conservative estimate, then you can expect if you put that back into the home That means you can afford a house worth $20,000 more over the course of 5 to 7 years,” said developer Alex Cook with Cobalt Developments.
