With Tropical Storm Hanna continuing further westward than originally thought, the Charleston County Emergency Operations Center remains at OPCON 1. That is the highest level of emergency operations.

The threat of spinoff tornadoes has increased and the possibility of a three to five foot storm surge has also risen. Officials say the Lowcountry can expect two to three inches of rain.

Parts of Charleston County are under a voluntary evacuation order. Transportation is available, but those transportation options will lessen as Hanna gets closer.

Berkeley and Dorchester Counties have elevated to OPCON 2. Both areas have opened shelters for residents.

North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey reminds that shelters are open to anyone who wants safety – not just for people living on the coast.
