Carol Armstrong has been in a wheelchair since a stranger beat her on the head with a broken shovel.

Her condition has prevented her from doing everyday household tasks like cooking or even brushing her teeth in the bathroom sink.

All that changed Tuesday with the donation of a custom-built house courtesy of the Charleston Trident Homebuilders Association.

Through the help of donations from the public and free labor and materials from more than 50 companies and organizations, the Armstrongs now have a home where Carol can feel comfortable and take care of her family more easily.

The floors were made for her wheelchair; the sinks and appliances have been designed for Carol to reach; and she can get in the shower now without risking a spill into the tub.

And thanks to the generosity of so many people the Armstrongs have no mortgage on their new home.
