Justin Hillerby will stay in jail. A judge denied bond for the man accused of killing his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son in Summerville. Our crew was in bond court this morning when Hillerby asked the judge if he could attend the child’s funeral. The judge said no. Hillerby will not be out of jail to attend the funeral.
According to the preliminary autopsy report, 2-year-old Blaise Spoerl died of blunt force trauma. On Monday, the Summerville Police received a call about a toddler found dead in his crib.
Hillerby was babysitting at the time of the child’s death. He was arrested yesterday.
According to the affidavit released today: Hillerby hit the little boy with his knee throwing the child to the floor head first. He then told the child who was moaning to get up and walk away. He said that the child was wobbling to a seat and looking like a zombie. Later he picked the kid up. Hillerby said the boy had no muscle control and his head was swaying in the high chair. The defendant then carried him to the bedroom where he struck the child’s head against the bedroom door frame. He left the boy in the bedroom for about 12 hours without seeking medical attention.
Hillerby is charged with Homicide by Child Abuse.
