Deputy Compton’s accused killers in court today

Two men charged with burglary and murder in the shotgun slaying of a Colleton County sheriff’s deputy are going before a judge today for a bond hearing.
Eighteen-year-old Jacoby Jermaine Fields of Walterboro and 19-year-old Travis Javon Harris of Smoaks have been charged in the death last month of Deputy Dennis Compton.
The 39-year-old Compton, was gunned down after responding to a burglar alarm early on the morning of Aug. 6 at a home near the rural community of Smoaks.
According to arrest warrants, the deputy was shot in the stomach with a shotgun after he responded to the alarm.
