The anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks is being marked in Charleston.

At 8:46 a.m. Thursday, the moment the first World Trade Center tower was hit, a fire department honor guard accompanied by bagpipers will march to the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown.

School children will participate in an observance on the hanger deck. Taps will sound and a wreath honoring the dead will be tossed on the waters of the harbor.

Firefighters, police and emergency personnel will be admitted free all day to the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum where the Yorktown is berthed.

Also, the Charleston Fire Department plans to ring the bell on the old Fire Watch Tower in the Historic District in honor of those who died.
