DHEC officials say there are 13 confirmed cases of swine flu in South Carolina.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Thursday that South Carolina’s cases bring the national total to more than 100 confirmed cases of the virus.

Ten other states also have confirmed cases.

A spokesman at the South Carolina health department declined to comment.

The agency is planning a noon news conference.

State Health officials have said the 13 confirmed cases were all linked to a school trip to Mexico.

Newberry Academy closed this week after students reported flu-like symptoms.

Also Thursday, another South Carolina school closed after students returned from Walt Disney World with symptoms.

Those cases have yet to be classified.
