BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: Accident shuts down Highway 17 at Colleton County line

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and Charleston County Rescue Squad are working a serious wreck that forced the closure of Highway 17 near Parkers Ferry Road.

According to SCFirewire, an 18-wheeler carrying wood chips t-boned a dump truck pulling onto the highway.

The accident happened on Highway 17 South at 9.20 Thursday morning at the Charleston and Colleton County line.

Traffic in the area is going to be blocked in both directions for several hours as deputies try to handle the scene.

The MUSC helicopter is being dispatched to the area and one of the drivers has life threatening injuries.
