Berkeley names school superintendent finalists

The Berkeley County Board of Education named three finalists in its search for a superintendent to fill the position of retiring Superintendent Dr. Chester Floyd.
School board chairman Doug Cooper said the district received 80 applications for the job from 29 states.
“We are looking for the right person who can build on our successes and take us to the next level,“ Cooper said. “We selected three candidates that we believe can accomplish that. Our next step will be determining the best of these three.”
The three finalists are:
• Dr. Richard Bales is superintendent of Johnson City Schools in Johnson City, Tenn. Dr. Bales has also served as this district’s Secondary Supervisor and an elementary principal as well as a teacher and instructional coordinator in another Tennessee district.
• Dr. Faron Hollinger is Superintendent of Baldwin County Public Schools in Bay Minette, Al. Dr. Hollinger has also served as superintendent of Jasper City Schools in Alabama as well as a Division Superintendent, Supervisor/Coordinator, teacher and school psychologist in his current district.
• Dr. Anthony Parker is superintendent of Johnston County Schools in Smithfield, NC. Prior to this post, he was superintendent in Beaufort County schools and Whiteville City Schools, both districts in North Carolina. He has been an Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, an elementary, middle, and high school principal, assistant principal, and a teacher in North Carolina school districts.
Floyd’s retirement is effective January 20.
