A Berkeley county family is recovering after their home burned Thursday night.

Floyd Craven tells News 2 he was playing a game with family when lightning hit at around 6 o-clock on Thursday night. He went around the house looking to see if his home had been hit, but couldn’t find anything.

Later that night, he began to smell smoke in the home,. When he climbed up to looki in the attic, think smoke blocked his flashlight.

He was able to get out of the house with his brother and sister as well as a number of pet dogs.

The house is basically totalled.  What wasn’t burned now has smoke or water damage.

Floyd lost pictures of his mother and father in the fire.  But he’s thankful nobody was injured.

He believes someone was watching out for his family.

The Red Cross assisted with hotel and clothes money.

Floyd is thankful he had insurance, and hopes to be back in the home soon.
