AirTran taking off for good
Published: October 9, 2009
Officials from the popular low-cost airline AirTran say their company will be pulling its flights from Charleston in December.
According to spokesperson Cynthia Tinsley-Douglas the company was not hitting their target revenue to keep the route going.
AirTrain started service in May 2007 and during the peak summer months offered 4 trips through Charleston daily. That number decreased by half in the off-peak seasons and the company says there was not enough business travelers to make it economically viable.
The last flights will be December 3 to and from Atlanta. AirTran says they re-evaluate service locations regularly and Charleston could be called on again in the future. Charleston was the only airport to discontinue AirTrain service at this time.
