Pet Helpers is offering a $500 reward for information that would lead to the arrest of someone that killed 2 cats belonging to a James Island woman.

The pets belong to Sherry Brown of the Clarkes Point subdivision on James Island. Brown found the first cat “Baby Cakes” in her pool on February 13. Investigators say it had an eye injury and most likely died from a strangling or a blow to the head.

“I’m scared,“ says Brown whose teeage daughter is ready to move away.

The second cat “Miss Daisy” was also found dead in the pool this time on March 13. Brown took Miss Daisy to the local vet for a necropsy (pet autopsy) which revealed a similar method of death. Her collar was removed and was lying on the pool deck.

Authorities worry that not only other pets in the neighborhood could be in danger but also people. Experts say animal cruelty can be a sign of a person with greater potential for violence.

“It is a threat, it’s like the person who did this was saying ‘look what I can do and you can’t catch me,‘“ says Brown.

Pet Helpers is working with Charleston County Animal Control on the case. If you have information call Pet Helpers at 843 795-1110, or Animal Control at 329-1551.
