Police arrest three people, after they brought a six week old baby to the hospital with severe burns. Police released photos of the infant’s injuries, but News 2 decided not to air them because of it’s disturbing and graphic nature. However we did post the photos on our website if you chose to view them.
The baby’s mother 18-year-old Angel Ann Richardson, her boyfriend 20-year-old Alexander Perry, and Richardson’s father 48-year-old Brian Richardson Senior are all charged in connection to this case.
Charleston County Sheriff’s Office detectives say it happened in a house on Outwood Drive in Ladson. Authorities say Perry was at home alone with the infant at the time. Detective Rita Avila says, “In the investigation, we found out that Mr. Perry had tried to give the infant a bath, and some how the infant in all of that was burned on both of his hands and left foot. As of right now, it’s not showing through our investigation, also the investigation of the medical specialists in Georgia, it was not so much a dipping into a hot water, so it wasn’t so much that he dipped, more than likely it was running water.“
Perry and the baby’s mother, Angel Ann Richardson took the baby to Trident Emergency Room. The baby suffered second degree burns and was air-lifted to Augusta Burn Center. Officials say the baby is in good condition, and he’s expected to recover. As far as long term injuries, it’s too soon to tell. He will soon be released to the Department of Social Services.
When police searched the home they also found marijuana plants there. A 16-year-old boy who lived there is also now in protective custody. Perry is charged with inflicting serious injury to a child, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and manufacturing marijuana. Angel Richardson is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and manufacturing marijuana, and her father Allen Richardson Senior is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Police say more charges may be pending depending on toxicology results from the infant. Detective Diane Turner says, “It’s disturbing. We do these types of investigations because we’re a voice for this child. When the family is unwilling or unable to do that, we’re able to step up and step in the role of parent and help these kids and help the families, and in this particular case it was in the way of an arrest as well as involvement by DSS.“
Authorities say all those arrested in this case have past criminal history. Richardson Senior was released from jail on 10-thousand dollars bond. A judge set bond at 50-thousand dollars for Angel Richardson, and denied bond for her boyfriend Alexander Perry, both remain behind bars. If convicted Perry could face up to 20 years in prison.
