Woman shot dead while withdrawing cash from ATM

Authorities say a woman has been fatally shot while getting money from an ATM in an affluent suburb of Columbia.
   
Forest Acres Police Chief Gene Sealy says the woman was robbed about 9 a.m. Wednesday at a Bank of America branch, just before it opened. He said she was shot several times and died at a local hospital.

Authorities continue to look for the suspect.  Sealy said the thief drove off in the woman’s car. He does not yet know how much money the robber took. The chief has scheduled a news conference for Wednesday afternoon.
   
The Richland County Coroner did not immediately return a message.  A spokeswoman for the local school district says schools in the area are continuing classes but have locked their entrances.
