Members of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Offices’ Drug Enforcement Unit, in close cooperation with the North Charleston Police Department and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division netted over 1 kilo of cocaine early on Tuesday morning December 2, 2008.

Arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine was 24-year-old Wayne Alwyn Hollinshead, Jr. of 5855 St. Angelea Street in North Charleston. The confiscated drugs have a street value of over $114,000.00.

The joint operation by the three law enforcement agencies began in Berkeley County and ended in North Charleston.  Officers conducted a traffic stop on Hollinshead’s vehicle at Lambs and Dorchester Road in North Charleston where they located 577 grams of a white powder substance that field-tested positive for cocaine.

The North Charleston Drug Unit obtained a search warrant on the suspect’s residence. There officers located 544 grams of a white powder substance that field tested positive for cocaine and 25 grams of a white/yellowish rock substance that tested positive for crack cocaine.  Hollinshead is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center.  His bonds so far total $2,050,000.00.

Authorities with the agencies involved agreed it was tremendous cooperation between these agencies that led to the seizure of the illegal drugs and Hollinshead’s arrest.
