Authorities are still piecing together clues, after the Charleston County Coroner confirms that remains found off a dirt road on Wadmalaw Island are that of Katherine Waring.

Saturday, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Charleston Police department responded to Polly’s Point Road, in a secluded gated community, after reports of remains found in the area.

Charleston Attorney Andy Savage, a friend of Waring’s family, says investigators he hired found the remains after searching the area since Thursday. They immediately called authorities, who had also searched the area Thursday.

Saturday evening, the Charleston County dive team was also searching off Riley Road on James Island. They have not said what they were looking for, but on October 7th, police arrested two people in connection with the case, and they both live on Riley Road.

Police say 29-year-old Ethan Mack and 30-year-old Heather Kamp lied about their last interaction with Waring on June 12th, the last night she was seen alive. Police say the two tried to cash a forged check for $4,500 dollars from Waring just three days after she went missing. The two are still behind bars charged with forgery and obstruction of justice.

Saturday night, the Waring family released this statement:

“It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that the body of our daughter Kate was found today on Wadmalaw Island. Today’s revelation is both shattering and bittersweet. While we will never have the chance to see our beautiful daughter walk down the aisle at her wedding, or see her fulfill her dreams– we can now bring our daughter home and give her the proper burial she deserves. We can only imagine that our anguish and pain will not subside for quite some time, but we can now begin the healing process as a family. Thank you to everyone who has kept us in their thoughts and prayers since Kate went missing on the evening on June 12th, 2009.“

The coroner says it could be days before there is an official cause of death.
