Friday, pet helpers is asking you to “cough it up” for the fifth annual fur ball gala. The black tie gala starts at 6:30 p.m., at Memminger Auditorium located downtown. This year the theme is fur Bollywood! Guests are encouraged to wear Bollywood attire and saris. There will be an open bar, hors d’oeuvres and a silent and live auction. Tickets are $150 per person and all of the proceeds from the gala will fund the pet helpers adoption center and spay/ neuter clinic.
Spooney, Charleston’s local label for women on the go, is hosting a four day warehouse blowout sale. The shopping event started on Wednesday and ends this Saturday. The sale will be held in the Spooney showroom in mount pleasant. All merchandise will be marked 40%-60% off retail prices. Doors will open at 10 a.m. and will close each day at 4 p.m.
The junior league of Charleston is throwing their whale of a sale which is considered Charleston’s largest garage sale. The 35th annual sale will be this Saturday, at the Gaillard auditorium exhibition hall from 8am to 1pm and is free to the public. Proceeds from the event support junior league-sponsored community projects: Lowcountry Food Bank, Back Pack Buddies, Gibbes Museum of Art Community Days, Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry, Boys & Girls Clubs, Kids in the Kitchen, and Louie’s Kids.
The Charleston Miracle League (CML), an organization which allows children and adults with special needs to play baseball, will celebrate their 5th anniversary on November 7, 2009 at the Joe Griffin Miracle Field, 780 Wake Oak Forest Drive. Festivities kick-off at 9 a.m. between baseball games.
During the event, new partners, Coastal Community Foundation, will be presented a $15,000 check to start the Baseball Forever Endowment Fund, which will provide investments for the future of CML. Current CML workers as well as former board members that helped launch the program will also be recognized. Additionally, the Mary Jane Murphy Memorial Garden will be dedicated as a special area to reflect and celebrate the lives of all the former CML players.
“The Charleston Miracle League has not only survived for five years, it has thrived, and we are so proud to have gotten to this point with continued growth,” said Channing Proctor, CML founder. “Best of all, everybody has fun at our games - the players love playing, their families love watching, the volunteers love providing support as buddies, coaches, umpires and fans.“
The celebration will begin at 9:00 a.m. Parking is available in the ball field behind the Joe Griffith Miracle Field. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the concession stand. A rain date is scheduled for November 14, 2009.
Saturday, is the Goose Creek fire department annual charity golf tournament benefiting the Carolina Children’s Charity. The event includes a cook-out and prices. The golf tournament starts at noon at the Crowfield Golf & Country Club. $75 per person and participants play in teams of four.
Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum & the SC Military Vehicle Preservation Club is having a Veteran’s Weekend Living History Exhibit. Sunday, from noon to 5 pm, is the colonial lake fall festival. Local businesses and community groups will have displays. Enjoy live music by the Hank Marley band and games like bocce ball, bean bag toss and shrimp net toss. You will have the opportunity to learn more about the conservancy’s revitalization plans for colonial lake. Raffle tickets will be available with proceeds benefiting the conservancy. The event is free and make sure to bring a picnic and lawn chairs.
The U.S. Air Force’s Tops In Blue is offering a free night of family entertainment at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center at 7:30 pm on Sunday, November 8, 2009. You’ll hear hot Latin sounds, All-American country music, and hits from the top of the charts. You’ll experience the great music from your favorite movies and Broadway shows. Combine all that with the dazzling lights, costumes and precision choreography for which Tops In Blue is known worldwide, and you can look forward to a show that’s sure to please everyone.
