Charleston is a city steeped in history, culture and art.  Local artist Robert Lange talks about art in Charleston and an event this weekend to help fund arts education in local schools.  Click the video to see the interview.  Here is a list of events going on for the Fine Art Annual weekend.  Check out Saturday night’s listing to find out how you can support arts education programs.

Friday, November 6, 5:30-8:30 p.m.
CFADA member galleries welcome you to Charleston with opening receptions where you are invited to meet local and visiting artists and see their new works. This free event is open to public. Participating galleries are: Ann Long Fine Art, Carolina Galleries, Charleston Renaissance Gallery, Corrigan Gallery, Ella W. Richardson Fine Art, Helena Fox Fine Art, Horton Hayes Fine Art, John C. Doyle Art Gallery, Martin Gallery, Robert Lange Studios, Smith-Killian Fine Art, The Sylvan Gallery and Wells Gallery.

Saturday, November 7, from 9 a.m. till Noon
Locals and visitors alike can mingle and watch artists at work as they donate their time and talent to creating masterpieces that will be later auctioned off at the Charleston Art Auction to benefit the Charleston County High Schools’ art programs. The ever-popular plein air event, Painting in the Park, takes place at Washington Park from 9:00 a.m. till noon. This event is free to public.

The Sixth Annual High School Art Competition, a platform for young talented artists to showcase their unique works, is part of the plein air event and will start at 11:00 a.m. at Washington Park. The finest student works will be on display and judged by a panel of celebrity judges. The winners will be announced at 11:30 a.m.

Saturday Evening
Saturday evening will be dedicated to auctioning fine works of art, featuring historically significant paintings and drawings together with contemporary works by recognized American artists.  The creations from Painting in the Park will be auctioned interspersed between other works.  The Charleston Art Auction will start at 7:15 p.m. at the Renaissance Charleston Hotel, 68 Wentworth Street, downtown Charleston. Reservations are highly recommended as seating is limited. Ticket are $50.00 (contributed to the Charleston County High School Art Programs, this includes a fully illustrated sales catalogue) per person.  To reserve tickets, call 843-785-2318.
10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. – Preview
5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. – Preview Reopens
7:15 p.m.  – Auction Begins

Funds raised at the event go to much needed art supplies for the participating Charleston County high schools.
