My News 2: March of Dimes fights to reduce premature births

The South Carolina March of Dimes chapter has invested millions of dollars in program services, including research grants and local community services. Through these grants, the March of Dimes is seeking ways to prevent birth defects and infant death, reduce South Carolina’s increasing premature birth rate, increase access to prenatal care and educate men and women about having healthy babies. Executive Director Meredith Repik and mom to premature twins, Kelly Lloyd joined me on My News 2 to talk about how the March of Dimes is fulfilling it’s mission in the Lowcountry.

Also, a huge event is taking place next week featuring some of the best restaurants in the Lowcountry. It’s a big fundraiser for the local chapter and you’re invited.

On October 29th at Embassy Suites Hotel and Convention Center, top chefs will offer Charleston an opportunity to enjoy a great night out while raising funds, making friends and highlighting the critical work of the March of Dimes. In addition to sampling signature dishes, guests will be able to bid on many unique auction items graciously donated by Charleston-area businesses.

Participating restaurants include: Carolina’s; Caviar & Bananas; Charleston Grill; Circa 1886; Dining Room at Woodland’s Inn; Halls Chophouse; FISH; Lana; Palm Tree Grill; Roberts of Charleston; and Virginia’s on King. In addition to the culinary and entertainment packages donated by the restaurants, must-have auction items including a week at a Grand Cayman Condo; a stay at the Nova Scotia Sea Fearing Maiden Bed & Breakfast and much more have been given by: John & Marilyn Metcalf; Bill Monk and other Charleston retailers.
