New energy drink that promises to burn up to 100 calories or more per can

Three years ago, Tom Speero would have never been able to exercise at a fast pace.

“I was about 35% body fat, 42 inch waist, 250 pounds,“ he said.

That was then. Now he’s 190 pounds, 15% body fat and has a 34 inch waist.

He credits a lifestyle makeover for his 60 pound weight loss. The catalyst behind the motivation: Celsius, a different kind of energy drink that promises to speed up your metabolism and burn up to 100 calories or more per can.

“It gave me the energy in the morning which would take me to my workouts around lunch time without the crash,“ Tom said.

Speero’s trainer measured his basal metabolic rate, the number of calories one burns at rest, to be 1000.

But that number has since changed to 2,000 calories a day.

Janice Haley and her husband Steven founded the Celsius, now a public company, four years ago.

They say testimonials like Speero’s abound.

“What we’re designed to do help people who are drinking things that are filled with calories filled with sugar or energy drinks because this is a healthier for you choice,“ Janice Haley said.

So what exactly is in the drink and what’s the science behind it?

“Green tea with ECGC, ginger, a little bit of guana, caffeine, b vitamins, vitamin c, calcium, chromium. If you drink Celsius 20 minutes before you exercise you are going to burn twice as much fat, and gain 50% more muscle,“ Janice Haley, the founder of Celsius, said.
