Plastic surgery for men? A growing number of men are going under the knife to look younger.
Women still account for most cosmetic procedures, but men are making up more of the total.
“Men are wanting to look better themselves. I think in the baby boomer generation, that’s something that’s becoming more acceptable,“ explained Dr. James Pietraszek, a plastic surgeon.
He says the stigma of plastic surgery has largely faded and that 15 percent of his patients are now men.
Some want to look younger to remain competitive in the work force.
“They want to look better for their jobs. It’s something that has an effect on a man’s ability to be employed,“ Dr. Pietraszek said.
Others are looking to attract potential mates. Especially older men, who are divorced and dating again.
“Men want to look better for themselves and also for their significant others,“ he said.
He said one of the most popular procedures for men is liposuction. Men who want to get rid of love handles and sagging stomachs.
“There’s the group of patients who want rejuvenation surgery. Men who want to have more youthful appearance and that primary boils down to their eyes and faces,“ he explained.
One things for sure, Dr. Pietraszek says men want to look as natural as possible, “A man doesn’t want to have a look that appears that he had surgery. He doesn’t want an operated on look.“
Other popular plastic surgery procedures for men include nose jobs, face and neck lifts and breast reductions.
