We all know how important it is for kids to get a good, healthy lunch at school.
That’s why two Florida women started a business based on getting organic and all natural food to kids.
“I think people are realizing more and more that organic is definitely the way to go,“ said Dawne Burke who prefers organic foods. “We’ve always eaten it at home and once my kids started going to school, I thought, what is this stuff?“
A typical school lunch doesn’t always follow a strictly organic diet.
“Organic means food that contains no pesticides, no preservatives. It’s grown the way nature intended for it to grow. It has no genetically modified ingredients in it,“ said Burke.
Burke wanted to take her passion for organic foods to the schools.
“I knew Patricia was an excellent chef and I said to her, ‘I have an idea for a business. What do you think? Would you like to do organic lunches for schools?‘“ asked Burke.
And green quinine was formed.
“We started calling every school we could think of in Pinellas County and Hillsborough County,“ Burke said.
Now, they prepare several hundred lunches a day for students.
“We set the menu up for them that is based on nutrition, and they pick out what they want to order, and we make their meals,“ said Patricia Feldman of Green Quizine.
Right now, they only go to private schools and they deliver the meals at lunch time Monday through Thursday.
“Wraps, salads, grilled brie sandwiches, anything you want, I will make,“ said feltman.
Everything green quizine uses is fresh and most of the produce is even grown in Florida.
“The stuff that we get in gets picked like the day before, and we get it delivered the next day,“ said Feltman.
It’s a growing going green business for our growing kids.
The meals cost between $4.50 and $5.00.
Each includes a main course and a side item.
