A look at what Hollywood films are being released to DVD this week.Published: June 8, 2009
The most recent film from one of Hollywood’s top talents in front of, and behind the camera, comes to DVD this week.
Clint Eastwood does double duty as actor and director in “Gran Torino”.
He plays a cranky retired autoworker and Korean War vet who’s none too happy about the increasing numbers of immigrants in his neighborhood, nor the gangs that he finds himself defending the neighborhood against.
Eastwood received Oscar nominations for directing and best original song.
“Gran Torino” is rated R.
Clive Owen’s trying to watch out for Naomi Watts in the thriller “The
International”.
He’s an Interpol agent determined to bring down a ring of arms dealers.
The ring is not only helping terrorists, but they’re also getting financial help from unexpected sources.
Watts plays an assistant district attorney in New York who’s sucked into the investigation.
“The International” is rated R.
Michael Chiklis’ final go round as L.A. cop Vic Mackie is showcased in season seven of the cable drama “The Shield”.
Mackie sees many of his personal skeletons come tumbling out of the closet in this final season and he also finds himself battling personal demons.
Cast and crew commentary and deleted scenes are included in this 4-disc set.
And change did come back in the summer of 1969.
“Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace and Music” returns to DVD in an ultimate collector’s edition, just as this cultural landmark approaches its 40th anniversary this august.
This film won the Oscar for best documentary in 1970 and now it’s available in a four-hour director’s cut.
Santana is among the 13 groups with Woodstock performances in this set never shown before on film.
