Monsters real and imagined hit the silver screen this weekend.

The military calls on a band of misfits and outcasts to save the world from intergalactic invasion in “Monsters vs. Aliens”.

This motley mix of characters has been under government confinement, and even though they’re not exactly battle-hardened warriors, they’re asked
to take down a giant alien robot.

Reese Witherspoon provides the voice of one of the would-be heroes, Ginormica, an almost 50 foot tall woman.

Kiefer Sutherland, Hugh Laurie and Rainn Wilson also lend their vocal talents to this PG rated offering.

From cartoon monsters, it’s on to the supposedly true horrors of “The Haunting in Connecticut”.

It’s based on one family’s real-life encounter with the dark forces of the supernatural when they moved into an old Victorian home.

Turns out the home had been a funeral parlor where some not so nice events occurred and the instigator of that trouble returns to stir things up for the unsuspecting new residents.

Virginia Madsen and Martin Donovan star.

“The Haunting in Connecticut” is rated PG-13.
