Asian markets mixed after Wall St. rebound

Asian stocks have been mixed today after Wall Street strong rebounded yesterday.

Japan’s Nikkei has gained nearly 3 percent, though it’s still far from making back the 11 percent it lost yesterday.

Compared to the gyrations earlier in the week, Asian markets seemed to be stabilizing. Shares in Singapore and China have been on the rise, while Hong Kong’s benchmark was flat. Australia’s key index is down about 1 percent, while South Korea’s is off 2 percent.

One market analyst says traders are worried about a global recession and are now “trying to work out which sector” and which companies are going to get hit.

In New York Thursday, a late wave of buying lifted the Dow Jones industrials 400 points. It was another volatile session with the benchmark swinging more than 800 points.
