A convicted drug dealer who police say shot and killed a 12-year-old South Carolina trick-or-treater has pleaded guilty to a federal weapons charge.

Quentin Patrick faces the possibility of life in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday in federal court. Sentencing was set for November.

Patrick has three prior drug convictions. The 23-year-old was charged as a felon in possession of a weapon after authorities recovered an AK-47 from his Sumter home.

Police say Patrick emptied the gun into the front of his house when he heard a knock at his door Oct. 31. Patrick told police he thought he was being robbed when he saw masked people outside.

T.J. Darrisaw died in a hail of at least 29 bullets. His brother and their father were injured.

Patrick faces state murder and assault charges.
