Women voters flocking to McCain/Palin

On the presidential campaign trail today, Barack Obama is hitting back against John McCain.  For the first time the word “lying” has come into this campaign.

Voters will decide the truth here, and the stakes are huge.  Five public opinion polls out this week show McCain and Obama essentially dead even.

Heading to Ohio and Virginia today, Barack Obama is striking back.

Sen. Obama said “I got to admit, these folks are shameless.“

At the heart of the fight is Sarah Palin.

Sen. McCain said “what a great reformer. The most popular governor in the United States of America!“

And John McCain’s claims in a new ad she’d transform Washington.

The ad does not mention that Palin backed the bridge while running for governor.

In 2006, Gov. Palin said “I won’t get in the way of that progress.“
In his own ad, Obama calls McCain’s ad claims dishonest.

It’s a fierce battle over voters’ perceptions of who can deliver change.

Obama’s dispatched surrogates to help.  Today Claire McCaskill in Virginia, Hillary Clinton was in Florida.

Sen. Clinton said “it really matters to the women of America who the next president is. And that’s why I think you are going to see a very strong base of support for Senator Obama.“

But since Palin joined McCain. polls show white women flocking to the GOP ticket.

McCain seized on Palin’s popularity to pull in $4 million at a fundraiser last night in Chicago.  Obama will be in Ohio today and may have women in mind as he promotes charter schools and replacing failing teachers.
