School of the Arts students wins national contest
Shelby Studebaker, a School of the Arts student brings home the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Southern Section Arthur Ashe Girls 14 Essay Contest award. She and her father will both receive an all expenses paid trip to New York to attend the US Open and the Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day August 29, 2009
The Arthur Ashe Essay Contest asked participants to explain in 300 words or less what the Arthur Ashe quote “From what we get, we make a living; what we give, however, makes a life” meant to them. The contest is sponsored annually by the United States Tennis Association and National Junior Tennis and Learning.
Studebaker is a freshman at the School of the Arts and is a creative writing major. She enjoys tennis and is active in the youth ministry at Sea Coast Church. Over the summer she went to Guatemala for a mission trip and feels grateful to live in the United States.
