Boeing acquires 50% of Vought

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Boeing Co. says it has finalized a deal to acquire a 50 percent interest in a North Charleston-based aircraft parts supplier for its 787 jetliner.

The Post and Courier reports Thursday that Boeing announced the deal to buy half of Global Aeronautica LLC from Vought Aircraft Industries Inc. Terms of the sale weren't released. Vought makes rear sections of the 787 fuselage.

Boeing plans to deliver its first 787 next year and about 1,100 workers are employed in plants at Charleston International Airport making sections of the airliner's fuselage, including parts imported from Japan and Italy.

The airliner is being assembled at Boeing's plant in Washington.

Work on the jetliner has been delayed because of supply problems in the past.
